Professor Pomme’s Practically Paradoxical Petite Pastry Parade

July 2014
Redmond, WA

Professor Pomme’s Practically Paradoxical Petite Pastry Parade enlivened Redmond’s annual Derby Days celebration in July 2014. In addition to the 80-member cast, this work featured numerous Model T cars, five eight-foot-tall Golden Eggs, a roaming Maypole, and a renovated school bus named Sparkle. Professor Pomme’s Practically Paradoxical Petite Pastry Parade was created with support from the Redmond Arts Commission, who participated in the parade.

In 2015, Neare was commissioned by the Mayor and the Parks Department to reimagine Redmond’s signature 75-year-old summer festival Derby Days—to make it more relevant and engaging to the city’s 21st-century population. This project was an outgrowth of her years-long engagement with the city.
